We are looking for a design team leader who would be a part of Alibaba.com’s NY leadership team and would be responsible for helping grow Alibaba.com’s business and reputation in strategic growth areas like venture design, brand design, experience strategy, marketing, and product design. You’ll work cross-functionally with leadership across the organization to craft messaging, align on priorities, and push the boundaries of our platform.

 

You bring experience managing creative, UX, and content leaders in a high growth, entrepreneurial organization, with a desire to inspire and lead. You excel at building strong cross-functional relationships in a fast-paced organization, drawing on insights to guide creative strategy and tactical execution. You feel comfortable rolling up your sleeves to execute design deliverables when necessary. You collaborate well with product and engineering, marketing, and operations teams locally and across geographies and cultures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively lead, mentor, and develop our amazing team; support ongoing career growth within the company
  • Identify, advocate for, and drive the execution of initiatives that have cross-team impact and are strongly rooted in customer needs
  • Become a trusted partner to our international team, leading the development of on-brand, business-driving creative assets that meet each team’s individual needs
  • Communicate complex ideas, goals, and problems in a way that is accessible to key stakeholders across the organization
  • Collaborate with the product teams on roadmaps and translate product and UX vision into innovative, best-in-class design that communicates brand values while also driving conversion
  • Nurture strategic relationships with key stakeholders throughout the organization, partnering with them to drive continuous improvement and innovation

 

Basic Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in design (digital and print), creative direction, and brand strategy – designing for an ecommerce brand and/or B2B enterprise a big plus, with 6+ years of experience in design management
  • A strong track record of building and leading multi-disciplinary teams – with an ability to drive accountability and creative delivery through motivation, mentorship and development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to work with stakeholders across geographies (US, Europe, Asia) to evolve cross-functional processes and establish a center of excellence for design
  • An inherent passion for data-driven, creative problem-solving, with the ultimate objective to drive business goals forward
  • Fluency in Mandarin and an international education or work background is a plus

Travel Requirements and Demands

Travel to other US offices as required. At least four international travels in a year.
